Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification Level

SCQF level 6 Award (Scotland)

RQF Level 3 Award (England, Northern Ireland & Wales) 

Your risk assessment of First Aid needs may well identify the need for Emergency First Aiders. Emergency First aiders may be sufficient without the need for any other, more qualified, first aiders.  Alternatively Emergency First Aiders may be required in addition of, or in support of, First Aiders that have successfully completed the full 3 -day First Aid at Work course.

Duration

A minimum of 6 hours consisting of theoretical and practical activities.

Emergency First Aid at Work Syllabus

A range of subjects is covered including:-

  • Responsibilities and reporting
  • Resuscitation
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Use of AED
  • Choking
  • Basic hygiene in First Aid
  • Bleeding control
  • Shock
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Minor injuries
  • Seizures
  • Catastrophic bleeding (optional)

Emergency First Aid at Work Certification

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a 3-year qualification will be issued to those who meet the criteria.

In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of about 3 hours, although it is not mandatory.

Numbers

A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be aged a minimum of 16 years or above. Bigger groups can be catered for, but the ratio must not exceed 12 students per instructor.
